Class Objective: Musical Awareness

Movement Concept: Levels and Direction

Did you know the music we use in class was developed specifically for our curriculum and with young ears in mind? Our classes in October will develop the students’ musical skills as they relate to movement. Our music and movement instruction enables your child to hear and feel the accents and rhythms with clear beats, short, clear phrasing, sing-able melodies and a little magic in the orchestration. We want them to begin to feel what the music is telling them to do. When children are able to truly feel music, they are able to bring expression and emotion into their movement – not only in dancing and acting, but life in general. Research within the area of neuropsychology provides the idea that the brain is a rhythm seeking organ. Knowing this, as well as the fact that children between the ages of zero to seven are developing every neural network, it is key to teach and practice rhythm, tempo awareness, and musical awareness at young ages.
