Class Objective: Relationships to Others

Movement Concept: Pathways, Speed and Energy

Children love to dance because they love to move! What better time to learn about using our relationships with others while dancing than during this season of togetherness? This month the students begin to consider their movement and placement in relation to others. We will also begin partner work – which they love!

In working with a partner, students become more aware of their own movement. They learn to work together and travel the same speed and in the same direction as their partner. This is great for their problem solving and non-verbal communication skills!

We will build on some of the movement concepts we learned in September and October by learning to move in more interesting ways. We change our pathway (curvy, zig zag), and vary our speed and energy. The students can relate these movement concepts to things they know – i.e. movement of hummingbird (quick and sharp) versus the movement to a butterfly (smooth and flowing). Ask them about these concepts at home. We look forward to showing you more during parent observation.
