Did you know? River Oaks Dance is the only school in Texas that presents students for the prestigious American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum Exams. This incredible honor places our dancers within a legacy of excellence, following directly in the footsteps of American Ballet Theatre’s rich tradition. We are proud to offer a level of training that not only elevates our dancers but also sets our studio apart on a national scale.
ABT’s National Training Curriculum is a world-renowned program that guides dancers from their first pliés to advanced technique. It prioritizes proper body mechanics—kinetics, coordination, anatomy, and alignment—ensuring students learn to move safely and efficiently. Artistically, the curriculum provides dancers with a deep understanding of classical ballet technique and the versatility to adapt to a wide range of styles. It is a thoughtful approach that shapes strong, expressive, and technically sound dancers.
The ABT Student Examinations are not just evaluations—they are a valuable tool for dance educators. These graded exams allow ABT Certified Teachers to receive personalized, constructive feedback from ABT Examiners, helping refine teaching methods and maintain the highest standards of training. Teachers who consistently present successful exam sessions can earn distinctions such as ABT Affiliate Teacher or even ABT NTC Fellow. This system ensures that students are learning from educators who are constantly growing, improving, and held to exceptional national standards.

For River Oaks Dance students, the ABT exams are an empowering experience. They serve as a formal assessment of progress, strengthening technique, artistry, confidence, and discipline. Each dancer receives an individualized rubric with comments from the Examiner and, upon passing, an official certificate noting their level and distinction—Pass, Merit, Honors, or High Honors. More than just ballet steps, the ABT exams represent dedication, growth, and a meaningful milestone in every young dancer’s ballet journey.
